Project Overview

Spotting Conflict Early: Proactive Skills for Leaders is a practical, scenario-driven lesson that teaches leaders how to identify tension and emerging conflict before it escalates. Built as part of my leadership development curriculum in the military, the course focuses on reading subtle cues, recognizing the phases of conflict, and responding with confidence and composure.

Problem Solved

Many leaders only react once conflict becomes obvious, often when emotions are high and options are limited. Teams and leaders needed a way to recognize early warning signs, de-escalate proactively, and stay grounded under pressure. This course provides a clear, structured approach to spotting conflict early, improving leader awareness, and preventing unnecessary escalation.

My Role

I designed and developed the full lesson, drawing from real-world leadership challenges faced in military environments. My responsibilities included content design, curriculum development, scenario writing, visual design, and full course development using Articulate 360.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson, leaders will be able to:

  • Recognize early cues and subtle signs of conflict

  • Understand the stages of conflict and appropriate leader responses

  • Maintain composure through effective self-regulation

  • Apply proactive strategies through scenario-based practice

Short Reflection on Impact

This course strengthened leaders’ ability to stay ahead of conflict rather than react to it. Participants reported increased confidence in reading a room, improved emotional control in tense situations, and better team stability. As an example of the leadership training I developed during my military career, this lesson demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive conflict-awareness skills in both professional and personal environments.
