Project Overview

This class is a practical, scenario-driven course designed to help leaders and teams communicate effectively in multicultural environments. Born out of my military experience working with diverse international teams, the course covers verbal and non-verbal communication, cultural dimensions, decision-making styles, and inclusive teamwork strategies. Learners gain the confidence and skills to collaborate with colleagues from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, ensuring success in high-stakes, globally diverse environments.

Problem Solved

In global teams, simple gestures, phrases, or approaches can carry very different meanings across cultures. Miscommunication can quickly erode trust, slow operations, and escalate tension. During my military deployments, I observed firsthand how cultural misunderstandings could impact team cohesion and mission effectiveness. Teams needed a structured, practical way to recognize these differences, communicate inclusively, and prevent avoidable conflict. This course addresses that need, translating complex cultural insights into actionable skills.

My Role

I served as an Instructional Designer and Course Developer, responsible for designing the overall course flow and lesson structure based on real-world military experience. I wrote content and created learning materials grounded in cultural intelligence and leadership theory, and developed scenario-based activities that reflect multicultural challenges in high-pressure environments. I also built engaging visuals and interactive exercises using Articulate Rise 360, and delivered the final course to support professional development and enhance team readiness.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify how culture shapes communication, expectations, and behavior

  • Recognize verbal and non-verbal cues that vary across cultures

  • Adjust communication, feedback, and persuasion strategies appropriately

  • Navigate cultural barriers to improve teamwork and decision-making

  • Avoid common cross-cultural missteps through practical guidelines

  • Apply cultural dimensions to real-world scenarios

  • Create a personal action plan for inclusive communication

Short Reflection on Impact

Born from my military experience with multinational teams, this course helped participants build awareness, confidence, and practical skills for working across cultures. Learners reported better collaboration, improved trust, and fewer misunderstandings when engaging with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. The course demonstrates my ability to convert real-world leadership experience into structured, high-impact instructional design that prepares teams to succeed in any multicultural environment.
